FAQ

OverDrive Comes to RSU Libraries

For those of you who have a public library card, you may already be familiar with how great OverDrive is. If not, we hope you are going to love it as much as we do! RSU Libraries is the first University Library in the state of Oklahoma to offer this fun and engaging resource to its University Community!

What is OverDrive?
OverDrive is our FREE Library Member driven e-book and audiobook collection! It has a free, very user-friendly app for your phone. Or you can go to the website to download and read e-books or stream audiobooks. It also works with your Amazon Kindle devices!

What does “Library Member-driven” mean?
It means that our University Community members (Staff, Faculty and current Students) have the ability to recommend an unlimited number of titles for us to add to this new collection. We want it to be truly representative of what our Community is interested in and enjoys.

How can someone “recommend” a title?
It’s easy! In the OverDrive app or webpage click Search, enter the title you are interested in (and want to save money on purchasing). When the title appears saying “Not Owned” just click Recommend! You’ll enter your email address to confirm your interest. As soon as the title is ready you will get an email letting you know it is on hold for you under My Account! Open Holds, click the title, and start reading/listening!

How do we log in?

You are not required to log in or create an OverDrive account to browse for titles, but when it’s time to check out your selections you will be prompted to Sign In. You will use your RSU username (not your email address) and password. It is the same information you use to log in to the computers on campus.

Will this collection be all popular reading titles?
It will be a direct reflection of what our users want it to be. If that means they want academic titles, we get academic titles. If that means they want graphic novels, then we get graphic novels. Knowing this, we do want to remind our users of the great creative and intellectual benefits of reading for enjoyment. There is a substantial amount of literature written on the topic now, and many University Libraries have begun creating and growing their popular reading collections because of it.
