INVEST in America Act

by Cecily Tubbs on 2021-08-25T08:53:00-05:00 | Comments

The Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation or INVEST in America Act has been advancing through Congress and a vote has been scheduled for the end of September in the House.  What would the INVEST in America Act do?  The $1 trillion bill includes $550 billion in new spending over five years on physical infrastructure including transportation projects, highway construction, high-speed internet, electric vehicles, and environmental cleanup. It would also include action on climate change with power grid upgrades and mitigation of damage from floods, droughts, and wildfires. President Biden proposed a minimum corporate tax to pay for the bill. The bill also seeks to address "human infrastructure" through the biggest expansion of social welfare programs since the 1960s. President Biden wants to redefine infrastructure as not just roads and bridges but also people. Investing in the American people is part of his "Build Back Better" agenda.
